KUCHING: A fisherman was believed to have fallen into the sea on Sunday morning (Apr 11), about 19 nautical miles from Kuala Igan.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Sarawak director First Admiral (Maritime) Zin Azman Md Yunus said a search-and-rescue team was deployed to the scene after receiving information from the Ulu Lanang Police Station.

The victim, Azrie Shafian Floren, 28, was said to have worn a blue shirt and black shorts.

“A friend of the victim had called the employer saying that Azrie was feared to have fallen overboard after realising that he had gone missing and not on the boat about 8am that morning.

“The search focused around the area from where the victim was last seen,” Zin Azman said on Sunday (Apr 11).

In an update yesterday (Apr 12), Azrie was yet to be found as of 7pm.

On another note, Zin Azman also advised local fishermen to avoid going out to sea during rough weather and to always wear their life jackets when at sea as it can lessen the risk of drowning.
