KUCHING: A Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) official has accused Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) of using gimmicks at ceramahs (political talks) and issuing press statements regarding the misconducts of Sarawak top leaders to win the hearts and minds of the public.

SUPP Central Youth secretary-general Milton Foo said in an announcement in Parliament recently, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Datuk Liew Vui Keong said there was no new development in the investigation into the alleged corruption of Sarawak Head of State (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

He said the attorney-general had studied the case and determined that prosecution was not necessary as information given to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) by the Bruno Manser Fund and Sarawak Report were the same.

“Sarawak DAP always like to make allegations and accuse our TYT of corruption and abuse of power but this is nothing new. It’s nothing but a political gimmick to gain votes,” Foo said at a press conference here yesterday.

“Liew had said MACC would not reopen files against Taib unless there is new evidence. Where is the new evidence?”

Foo said last year, Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii and Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei made the same allegations despite having no solid evidence or any report made to the Sarawak MACC or its headquarters in KL.

“I call on them to stop and shut up as there is no solid evidence against the TYT but just mere allegations of corruption, to get the people to dislike and distrust the Sarawak government. Stop making empty talk. I’m disappointed with Sarawak DAP and challenge its chairman Chong Chieng Jen to lodge a report if he has any solid evidence,” Foo said.

“Sarawak DAP used to make a lot of corruption allegations against Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir and some leaders but now that they are the government, they have kept very quiet on the issue.”
