ASAJAYA: Asajaya constituents will heave a sigh of relief once the 600 street lamp posts light up the main road soon.

GPS candidate for Kota Samarahan, Datuk Rubiah Wang said the street light installation project under the management of Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency (IRSDA) is in the process of implementation.

“Residents in the Asajaya area no longer have to worry about dark roads because the lighting installation project from Tambey to Sampun is in the pipeline.

“This installation is done in stages according to the alignment. As of today, the installation has reached the area of Kampung Semawang,” she said when met at Kampung Moyan Laut, here on yesterday.

According to her, the street lighting installation project along the coastal road involves three main phases and includes seven state constituencies.

She explained that the first and second phases of the project which cost RM23 million have already started, while the third phase which is estimated to be worth RM7 million will also commence soon.

“For phase one and phase two, it is estimated that nearly 3,800 lampposts will be installed from Stakan, Muara Tuang, Asajaya, Sadong Jaya, Simunjan, Gedong and Sebuyau.

“The third phase covers the access roads to the villages in all the state constituencies and it is estimated that more than 3,000 poles will be installed in the affected areas,” she said.

Rubiah added that the installation of street lights would not only provide basic facilities and comfort to the people, but can even reduce the risk of accidents in the area.

“Recently many accidents occurred in this Asajaya area, and one of the causes is due to the potholes or uneven road surface coupled with the dark road at night.

“Therefore, I hope that with these street lights, the risk of accidents in our area can be reduced,” she added.
