KUCHING: Senior Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof has urged Malaysians to strengthen patriotism and love for the nation, while reminding them to stay away from negative elements.

He said although the National Day celebration could not be held as lively as before due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the spirit in appreciation of the true meaning of an independence must never change and fade away.

“Let us unite and join forces in fighting the spread of Covid-19 and free the country from the threat of pandemic for the sake of winning this battle together,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Fadillah also stressed that political stability was crucial for the nation to deal with the pandemic so that focus could be directed towards the people and reviving the economy.

“Remember to also stay away from all negativity. Take care of religious, racial and cultural sensitivities.

“Do not be too obsessed with anything or in our actions. Practise moderation in life.

“Let’s learn to celebrate the different opinions and respect for each other, a caring Malaysia, regardless of race and religion,” he added.

Fadillah took the opportunity to extend his appreciation to all the frontliners who have worked tirelessly in tackling Covid-19.

“You are all national heroes. Only God can repay the great service and sacrifice of our frontliners.

“Also thanks to Malaysians who have responded in large numbers to the call to get vaccinated, while those who have yet to do so, do register immediately,” he said.

On this National Day, Fadillah prayed that the country’s situation would recover from Covid-19 soon and that Malaysia would continue to be peaceful, harmonious and be well-known on the world stage.
