KUCHING: A more stringent standard operating procedure (SOP) and proper guidelines are needed for the upcoming state election to complement the state’s vaccination achievement.

Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) secretary-general Datuk Ir Janang Bungsu stated that Sarawak has achieved great success thus far in executing the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NCIP).

“I must congratulate our leaders at the national and state levels for being able to work together in carrying out the vaccination programme for the state. Sarawak is a big state and logistics can be quite challenging especially in the rural areas.

“The next step is for the Election Commission (EC) and Ministry of Health (MOH) to come up with a proper SOP with more stringent guidelines. The enforcement of compliance to the SOP is also mandatory to protect the life and livelihood of the people,” he said when contacted on Sunday (August 1).

On the proclamation of emergency being extended for the state, he said it is the best decision at the movement given the current circumstances with the Covid-19 pandemic.

He noted that the decision shows how the leaders of the country and Sarawak in particular have placed the life of the people above all else.

“I am sure that this decision was made after taking into consideration advice from all parties be it the health and law expert. We must acknowledge the wisdom of Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Head of State as well as all leaders that have made this decision.

“I would like to call all Sarawakians to put our concerted effort in fighting the pandemic by putting aside our differences and the blame game to move forward in unity,” he added.

He also pointed out that the postponement of the upcoming election will give more time for the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and its component parties as well as other aspiring candidates.

“Nevertheless, I believe GPS have been working tirelessly throughout their tenure as assemblymen and assemblywomen even before the pandemic occurred.

“This extension has given them extra time to carry out their duties. I believe it is not so much for the election preparation but to continue to render their best services to the people with diligent,” he said.
