MIRI: Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd-Sarawak Operation (SKO) has been asked to strictly monitor their offshore crew and to comply stringently with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) imposed by the authorities.

This is meant to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus among their offshore crew members.

In giving this reminder recently during a brief visit to the SKO in Lutong, here, state Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin, reasoned that this was crucial in curbing the spread of the coronavirus in accordance with the SOPs given by State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) and Ministry of Health (MoH).

Lee’s delegation was received by Morris Mail, the senior general manager and head of Sarawak Oil and the leadership team from SKO.

On his meeting with SKO, Lee described it as timely to facilitate information and knowledge sharing between his ministry and company.

“This is especially in the areas related to transportation and logistics, namely offshore support, offshore crew and work boats and offshore helicopter operation,” he said.

Lee said, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd with their in-place use of INTERLOG-Integrated Logistic System and Vessels Tracking System (VTS) plus the Command Centre to monitor materials, asset and vessel movement had been proven efficient and effective in managing their operation including on fuel consumption and asset management.

Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd also has detailed SOPs on safety, he added.

“Hence the Ministry could learn from these best practices of Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd in the formulation of its transportation policy and SOPs. Both parties look forward for closer collaboration in potential areas particularly the Miri Smart City-Smart Mobility, Riverine Transport Safety and Urban Transport Safety,” he disclosed.
