STU, Swinburne sign MOU on further education

KUCHING: Sarawak Teachers Union (STU) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus to allow collaboration in areas of further education on Sunday (Dec 20).

The signing ceremony was held at Penview Hotel here after the Union concluded their 25th Biennial Delegates’ Conference.

The MOU was signed between STU newly-elected president Adam Prakash Abdullah and Swinburne Innovation Malaysia chief executive officer cum Future Projects director Prof Wallace Wong, witnessed by Swinburne’s Dean of Faculty of Business, Design and Arts, Prof Lee Miin Huui and STU secretary general Chung Fui San.

“This MOU will benefit the teachers and I hope this will be a beginning to many more opportunities not only for academic excellence but other professional training as well,” Adam said in his speech at the ceremony.

Meanwhile, Wong said through the MOU, Swinburne is offering a fee waiver to STU members to take up postgraduate studies at Swinburne Sarawak — Master of Arts (MA) in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) programme.

In short, STU members registering for the programme is entitled to 20 percent discount in order to gain graduate certificate in MA TESOL after one semester or stay on for another semester to gain graduate diploma and complete the masters in just 1.5 years.
