MIRI: The Sarawak Oil Palm (SOP) Foundation has extended its support to 94 students from 45 selected schools in Sarawak through its Student Adoption Programme (SAP) for the year 2022/2023.
The programme’s ceremony has been held in Sungai Asap, Marudi, and a similar one is scheduled for today (Oct 25) in Sebauh. The foundation has also reached out to various regions, including Lambir, Niah, Suai, Tatau, and Balingian.
Recognising the geographical distances between these schools, the SOP Foundation took the initiative to personally facilitate the handovers in each location.
The SAP is an integral part of the SOP Foundation’s initiatives, with a focus on providing financial support for the educational needs of underprivileged children in primary and secondary schools located near SOP’s operations.
In this recent initiative, 94 students from low-income families received one-time financial assistance, along with brand-new school bags and stationery. Since 2016, the SOP Foundation has supported a total of 666 students through the same program.
While excelling in the oil palm business, the SOP Foundation actively collaborates with local communities, emphasising mutual growth through various initiatives such as the Young Achievers Award (YAA), SOP Vision Care Project, SOP Christmas Celebration with Local Communities, and Healthy Strides Malaysia.
