KUCHING: Eleven boarding school students, who allegedly injured three junior students early last year, were released on bond of good behavior for two years without surety, at the Magistrate’s Court here today.
Magistrate Zaiton Anuar ordered all the teenagers, aged between 15 and 17, to be released on good behavior bonds after hearing advice from a welfare officer, who was present to testify.
All the accused, who previously changed their pleas from ‘not guilty’ to ‘guilty’, were charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code and can be punished under Section 34 of the same code.
They allegedly hit three victims, aged 14, at their school dormitory in Jalan Batu Kawa at 1am on January 19 last year.
According to previous reports, the victims were said to have been beaten, punched and assaulted by at least 11 older students.
Padawan District Police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan in his previous statement also explained that the incident unfolded when one of the victims complained to his parents about the trauma of the incident.
“During the incident, the victim, who rejected one of the senior students’ order to fight with a Form 3 student, was beaten causing him to fall against the wall and to the foot of the bed,” he said.
The victim also said that the incident was witnessed by a security guard who was making his rounds.
Due to the incident, each victim suffered from swelling in the arms, stomachs, backs, thighs and shoulders.
Insp Mohd Adzmei Ahmad appeared for the prosecution while the accused were represented by defence counsel Abdul Rahman Mohd Hazmi.
