KUCHING: A bruise now mars the left eye of a secondary school student in Matang, the result of a purported beating he endured at the hands of his dormitory mates.
The assault allegedly ensued after he declined to engage in a physical altercation with one of his friends.
According to a police report lodged by the victim at the Simpang Tiga One Stop Centre Police Station, the incident happened last Friday when the form four student was in the dormitory room during the break period following Friday prayers.
The incident was believed to have been instigated when a friend (suspect) taunted the victim and challenged him into a brawl with another friend.
Unwilling to partake in the altercation, the victim brushed off the provocation. However, as the challenge was snubbed, the suspect appeared to become enraged and hit the victim on the head, face, and body.
The victim reportedly begged the suspect to stop despite his reluctance to take physical revenge. Sadly, his cries were ignored.
Meanwhile, Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah when contacted, confirmed that investigations into the case will be carried out.
“The case will be referred for prosecution consideration,” he said briefly.
Nevertheless, Ahsmon clarified that there was no ‘gang’ affiliation in the incident.
The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
