Student nabbed for possessing drug

MUKAH: A 15-year-old student was detained for possessing 0.15g of methamphethamine drug (syabu) at Jalan Selangau-Bintulu on Friday (Oct 29).
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said a police team arrested the boy at an unnumbered worker’s quarters at Jalan Selangau-Bintulu, for involving in drug abuse.
He said body check on the suspect found a small straw tube containing crystalline substances, suspected to be methamphetamine weighing about 0.15g inside the suspect’s black sling bag. His identity card was also inside the sling bag.
“The suspect was brought to the police station to undergo urine test, which was positive for amphetamine,” he said in a statement.
He said the suspect admitted to being involved in drug abuse since early 2021, and obtained his drug supply from a man called Gaya in Selangau area.
Police are looking out for Gaya. The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1952.
If convicted under Section 12(2), the suspect can be sentenced to not more than five years in jail or fined not more than RM100,000, or both.
Under Section 15(1)(a), he faces up to two years in jail or a fine of not more than RM5,000 and put under police surveillance for up to three years.
