KUCHING: Students of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) are expected to be able to report back to campus by March next year, said its vice chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi.

He said by then, students will be entering the second semester of the 2020/2021 session on March 15, 2021.

“All university teaching and learning activities are implemented online during Semester 1, Session 2020/2021. Please direct any questions related to teaching and learning to the respective faculty.

“For Unimas pre-university students, a special practical session for their Semester 2, 2020/2021 session will be held from Dec 21 this year until Jan 17 2021. Teaching and learning for that semester will be implemented online,” he explained.

He said this in a notice issued by the varsity today, in response to the recent development of the Covid-19 pandemic nationwide.

Kadim said permissions for students to return to the campus, that were previously granted to current students, had been revoked.

“Exemption to return to campus will be given for students with needs such as postgraduate research students, final year students, students involved in clinical work, practical or those who need special equipment.

“Same goes for students under the B40 category, students requiring the recognition of Professional Bodies and those without conducive environment to implement online learning. They will have to submit a new application,” he said.

The vice chancellor reminded students to check in using the Unimas WeCare application every day to track their whereabouts while still under the recovery movement control order (RMCO).

“Students are advised to always be sensitive to the instructions issued by the authorities from time to time. All these measures are implemented taking into account the safety of all students and staff of the university,” he said.
