Students make Sarawak proud at convention

KUCHING: The National Tunas Niaga Programme (PROTUNe) Convention 2019 saw three teams from Sarawak schools bagging a few awards including the Overall Best Protune Company, Best Company, Best Booth and Best Teacher-Advisor.  

Sarawak also came second in the Best Corporate Report and Best Presentation categories as well as third in the Best Company Manager category. 

Teams from eight different states comprising 18 students and six teachers took part in this year’s convention held from Feb 13 to 16 at the Ilmu Pauh Putra Hall, University Perlis Malaysia (Unimap), Perlis.

The Aurora Sdn Bhd team of SMK Matang Hilir in Kuching captured the top prize in the overall Protune Best Company category and the Best Booth category.  The team emerged second in the Best Corporate Report category.  

The Best Presentation category was won by the D’Semerah Sdn Bhd team of SMK Semerah Padi, while the the Best Teacher-Advisor award was won by Siti Naidah Ainonor.

SMK Semerah Padi also came second in the Best Booth and Best Presentation categories.

Zulhafizan Tahir of SMK Semerah Padi was third in the Best Company Manager category while Syarikat Karisma Sdn Bhd team of SMK Serian was third in the Best Booth category.

The students, teachers and principals were recently feted to a lunch hosted by Sarawak State Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) general manager Abdul Hadi Abdul Kadir.  

“The competition was stiff but local students won many awards including the overall Best PROTUNe Company category which showed their entrepreneurship skills and critical thinking as well as leadership skills in solving problems,” he said.

He added the convention had also allowed the students to explore their interest in entrepreneurship and boost their confidence, especially during the presentation of their reports and products that were showcased during the event.

“The students will become more interested in creating jobs for themselves and others when they are exposed to entrepreneurship. The convention will fuel their ambitions to become successful businessmen and businesswomen in the near future,” he added.

Also present at the lunch was Assistant Minister of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais.
