Students of a boarding school at Jalan Batu Kawa-Matang being released on three separate bails at the Kuching High Court.

SCHOOL BULLYING INCIDENT

KUCHING: The High Court here yesterday released nine students who pleaded not guilty to causing grievous hurt to a schoolmate in a bullying incident on Jan 16.

The students, from a boarding school at Jalan Batu Kawa-Matang here, were released on bail of RM2,000 with their parents as sureties after they pleaded not guilty to bullying and injuring a Form 1 student.

Magistrate Nuruhuda Mohd Yusof presided over the case.

On a separate bail, seven students of the same school were released on bail of RM5,000 with their parents as sureties before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.

In addition, six other students were also released on a RM5,000 bail with their parents as sureties.

All of the students, ages 15 to 17, were charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

The offence carries a jail term of up to one year or a fine not exceeding RM2,000, or both.

The incident happened on Sunday (Jan 19) at 1am when the first victim (out of three Form 1 students) was called to a room by his seniors and forced to fight one-on-one with one of them.

However, the victim refused and it led the bully to punch the victim’s arms, hips and buttocks as well as perform a headlock on the victim which made him difficult to breathe.

The case will be re-mentioned on March 3.
