KUCHING: Thirty students took part in a community service project to clean up Trombol Beach here. The clean-up was carried out by St Joseph’s Private Secondary School in collaboration with Padawan Municipal Council. “Participating in a beach clean-up event is a better way to conserve the environment by removing trash and other debris that could pollute the water,” said council chairman Lo Khere Chiang. “Besides, this programme also helps ensure the teenagers enhance their responsibility towards the surrounding environment. “In 2021, the council spent more than RM100,000 to carry out clearing works at illegal dump sites. “It also saved 33,748.70kg of recycle waste from being disposed into the landfill including plastic, aluminium, and paper that year.” In this respect Lo said it is important to collect dumped waste along the beach such as plastic and aluminium cans to prevent a poor image of the beach and promote a clean environment.
