KUCHING: The young generation must study the cores contained in the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 especially the areas that the state government is focusing on.

Petra Jaya incumbent Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said students need to know the agenda brought by the state government as it is for the benefit of the people and the state.

“I would like to emphasise the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields of study as it is to ensure that the development brought by the state government can be continued.

“Therefore, the young people in particular need to play a role in learning STEM with full dedicated in efforts to contribute in the research and development (R&D) for related fields in the future.

“It is also in line with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s aspiration to make Sarawak a developed and high-income state by 2030,” he said.

He said this when officiating at the Petra Jaya STEM Tour programme together with National Astronaut Major Dr Faiz Khaleed at Kampung Demak multipurpose hall today.

He called on students of SMK Demak Laut to take this up seriously as they will be among those who will continue the development of Sarawak in the future.

He said the young people need to seize the opportunities provided by the state government in certain professional fields.

“Various sectors are being studied and require professional workforce such as scientists and mathematicians among others to handle certain works.

“As such, they must seize the opportunity and choose a suitable major so that they can pick a suitable job opportunity in addition to bringing the state towards a more advanced direction,” he added.
