THE study on the navigation of the ‘River Transport System’ from Kuching Waterfront to Siniawan Heritage Town is entering its final stages.

Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said the research carried out will be completed by June end.

“The importance of the research is to identify the safest possible routes and places for interests for visitors while avoiding hazardous shallow spots along the river.

“Moreover, the study also aims to pinpoint any potential locations to build jetties along the stretch of Kuching Water to Siniawan Heritage Town,” he said in reply to Miro Simuh (GPS-Seremby) during a question-and-answer session today.

Miro wanted to know the immediate plan to implement the ‘River Transport System’ from Kuching to Siniawan Heritage Town based on the study completed by the consultant.

To a supplementary question on the expected completion date for the entire ‘River Transport System’ project, Henry said it is expected to be completed by 2027 subject to funds under the 13th Malaysia Plan.
