KUCHING: A new Covid-19 cluster has been detected in Sarawak and it is called Stutong Market Cluster.

According to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement on Saturday (July 18), the two positive cases were detected as a result of the initial screening of 56 traders at the market.

The cases did not show any sign and/or symptom of the disease and they are considered as local transmissions because those affected did not have any history of travelling overseas.

SDMC said the Sarawak Health Department would do a follow-up by screening a total of 200 people at the market.

Further investigation is ongoing and close contact tracing is being carried out.

Kuching City South Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng when contacted also confirmed that the market would be temporarily closed until further notice.

SDMC reported that to date there have been no new recoveries and patients discharged from hospital.

The total number of recoveries and discharged patients remained at 554 or 92.18 of the total cases.
