KUCHING: Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) Sarawak deputy director Dr Shantrol Abdullah has commended Suara Sarawak’s initiative to promote Bahasa Melayu.
According to him, language is important for a publication medium like a newspaper because it reflects the organisation.
“Readers will assume that the organisation is not serious in promoting Bahasa Melayu as the national language if there are basic errors (in writing).
“Therefore, other newspaper organisations should emulate Suara Sarawak so that errors can be minimised,” he said after conducting a language course at the Suara Sarawak Office here on Monday.
Dr Shantrol added that such courses were also important to improve command of Bahasa Melayu.
“It is my hope that Suara Sarawak will organise more in-depth language courses in the future,” he said.
The course was attended by 45 Suara Sarawak staff and invited participants to further strengthen their writing skills.
Suara Sarawak often holds courses to correct language errors in line with its vision to be an educator newspaper not only in terms of news value but also the correct use of Bahasa Melayu.
