KUCHING: French-born Cambodian player Boris Kok’s late goal of the game proved the difference as Sarawak United FC (SUFC) edged out Melaka United by 1-0 in the last Malaysia Super League match of the season to finally break their duck at home.

He lost his marker and reacted the fastest to tap home from close range right before the goalkeeper could save it in the 86th minute when Gonzalo Manuel Soto’s header from a set piece fell into the 6-yard box with Melaka United’s defence caught napping.

With the victory last night (Oct 15), Sarawak United FC have finally won their first game at home as they were struggling to find their foot playing in front of their home fans for the entire season.

All of the wins they have racked up from the first 21 games were all from their away games.

Both teams went into the game with nothing else to play for other than their pride on the line as their league standings would remain unchanged within any possible outcome of the match.

Melaka United had their best chance of the game in the 13th minute when their Haitian player Sony Norde’s long range shot from outside of the box took a wicked deflection that sailed just inches wide of the post with SUFC’s goalkeeper Aquila Abdul Rahman reeling in front of his goal.

Sarawak United looked like scoring in the 59th minute when our Nigerian player Uche Agba’s wonderful pass found our South Korean player Lee Chang-Hoon clean through on goal but his effort was thwarted by the Melaka United’s goalkeeper Ahmad Asyraaf Omar from his near post.

With the three points in the bag last night, Sarawak United finished the Malaysian Super League 2022 with 17 points collected from five wins and two draws.
