IPOH:  A former plantation worker, M. Sugu, who is the husband of famous YouTuber S. Pavithra, was today released by the Sessions Court here on good behaviour bond for three years for possession of an offensive weapon.

Besides also imposing a RM8,000 bail with one surety, judge Norashima Khalid ordered Sugu, 30, who had pleaded guilty to the charge, to pay cost of RM3,000 to the prosecution.

He was charged with committing the offence at the parking lot of Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here, between 4 pm and 6 pm on July 21 last year.

When handing down the decision, Norashima said she took into account the mitigation by the defence and their representation application for the prosecution to review the case.

Lawyer Syahrul Nizam Mohd Rabi, representing Sugu, had requested for his client to be placed on good behaviour bond under Section 294 of the Criminal Procedure Code on grounds that the incident happened following a misunderstanding.

He said Sugu also had no previous record and had two children to support.

“He was also one of the candidates for the Ipoh City Child Icon for his contributions which had to some extent make Perak famous,” said Syahrul Nizam, adding that Sugu also regretted his action and promised not to repeat his mistake.

Deputy public prosecutor Liyana Zawani Mohd Radzi, who prosecuted, did not object.

On Sept 17 last year, the Ipoh Sessions Court had given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal to Sugu on a charge of assaulting Pavithra, 28, after the wife took an oath to withdraw the charge voluntarily without coercion and intimidation, during the proceedings. – Bernama
