KUCHING: A man who wanted to jump off a four-storey building near Batu Kawah New Township here today, was persuaded to change his mind by firefighters.

State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said it received a call around 6.25am about a possible suicide attempt at the place.

They said the 34-year-old man was standing on one corner of the roof and seemed to be intent on jumping down.

“The operations commander reported that the man was successfully persuaded and rescued at 8am.

“He was handed over to the police for further action,” they said in a statement today.

The operations centre said the rescue team was also joined by the man’s mother in their effort to cajole the man from jumping off.

A Bomba spokesperson also noted that the suicidal man, who hailed from Sri Aman, was quite coherent throughout the episode.

It seemed that the man was suffering from depression.
