MIRI: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) is celebrating its 60th anniversary this coming June 4.

In conjunction with the anniversary celebration, SUPP Piasau branch is to organise a flag-raising ceremony on June 4 (Tuesday) at 7am.

SUPP Piasau chairman cum SUPP secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting revealed this during a press conference held yesterday.

“We urge all SUPP members to come together to celebrate our party’s 60th anniversary,” he said.

He added, a series of programmes have been lined up in conjunction with the anniversary.

“The flag-raising ceremony will be held at SUPP’s Piasau branch,” he said.

He added, others branches throughout the state will also do the same thing to mark the party’s 60th celebration.

“SUPP is the oldest political party founded in 1959 to fight for the people and the interest of Sarawak.

“It is a multiracial political party with the three interlocking black rings on the logo representing the three major races of Sarawak,” he said.

Ting added the party has been always fighting for the people and Sarawak since its establishment.

“The new generation of members should continue the party’s mission. Our ancestors have been fighting so hard to get Sarawak’s independence, to improve the economics of Sarawak as well as the welfare of the people,” he said.

Ting called on party members to give their full support to party president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian to continue the legacy that left by their ancestors.

“Without the full mandate, we will not progress as one and reach the same destination…we tell the history of our party is to remind everyone about what we have fought for peace and justice, for our families and for party leaders so that the young ones will remember them and continue their legacy,” he said.
