KUCHING: Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (Dapsy) has been chided for disregarding the law by putting up Chinese characters on road signs in the city.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Women chief Kho Teck Wan said their action had set a bad example for normal citizens.

“There were occasions when the road signs with Chinese characters were changed, and the Chinese characters were dropped.

“However, when notified by public the respective city or district council would rectify the mistake immediately. We govern by rules and there is a proper channel to lodge complaints and requests,” she said in a press statement on Friday.

She was commenting on Dapsy’s action in putting road signage in Chinese characters on Thursday.

“Among those who performed the publicity stunt was former Stampin MP Julian Tan and as a former YB, he should know better to not break the law.

“Changing road signs can cause serious consequences… Sarawak is a model state of harmony and unity,” she said.

She wanted to know what message Dapsy was trying to send out to Sarawakians and the rest of the world?

“Has they been ill treated or denied of their rights in Sarawak? Their immature action has tarnished Sarawak’s image and can cause unnecessary racial tension,” she said.
