SUPP promises fire victims will receive help

SIBU: The victims of the fire at Jalan Tiong Hua on Monday are to be given immediate assistance by the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP).

SUPP Deputy President II cum SUPP Bukit Assek Branch chairman, Datuk Chieng Buong Toon, said his party had set up a special committee for the purpose.

“Once I heard about the fire, I rushed to the scene. After looking at the situation, we decided to help the victims as much as we can,” he said while visiting the victims and the site of the calamity, today.

He noted that 40 people in six families were affected by the fire.

“I want all residents in the area to take precautions to prevent such incidents from happening again,” he said.

To the victims who wish to seek aid, he them urged to contact officials from SUPP Bukit Assek Branch including him. The numbers are 084-313566 or 019-8860840 (Chieng).

It is understood that most of the old houses in Jalan Tiong Hua were built around the 60s and 70s and are inhabited by people from outside Sibu while the owners have moved to other places.
