KUCHING: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) is ready to face its opponents in the upcoming state election, SUPP president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said.
He said the party had always been prepared adding its preparation began after the last state election.
“We cannot prepare just before the election, so we must be always ready. I have always said the candidates must be someone active on the ground. They must be someone visible and not confined within the comforts of their office,” he pointed out.
Dr Sim, who is also Local Government and Housing Minister, said this when met by reporters after the presentation of Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) to eligible constituents in Batu Kawa on Wednesday.
On the possibility of a joint state and general election, Dr Sim said it would depend on Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg as they would have the final word on calling for the polls.
“What is important is we continue to work and serve the state; Sarawak’s interest must come first. For example, KGC today, only Sarawak has such privilege,” he said, adding that that the state government came up with various initiatives for its people.
“At the same time, we want Sarawakians to feel proud that Sarawak is uniquely different,” he said.
