KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Kuching branch’s potential candidates for Padungan constituency, Bong Lian Huan and Jong Yean Pin, will officially be on the ground from now onwards in preparation for the coming state election.

This was marked by the symbolic handing over of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) flags from SUPP Kuching branch chairperson Datuk Lily Yong to the two potential candidates at Juat Siang Café, Carpenter Street here on Saturday.

“Although we have already endorsed the two candidates last year, from today onwards they will be officially on the ground. Of course, the final decision will still depend on the GPS government,” she said at the ceremony.

“It is a mandate given to both of them; they have to make sure that they will win in the coming state election,” she said.

She said that politics nowadays was causing much confusion, and hoped that both candidates would have a different approach for Padungan.

“They have been working very hard for the past two years, even during the movement control order (MCO),” she said, adding that they now had to move from being on a low profile to going full swing.

For instance, she said they had been going around different areas in Padungan conducting Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) applications and resolving any relevant matters, as seen on the sidelines at the ceremony.

Yong, who is also SUPP vice president, said that Bong and Jong had been working together and supporting each other as a team, emphasising that this was the spirit of SUPP Kuching branch.

“The team for Padungan constituency is ever ready,” she assured.

Bong Lian Huan

Meanwhile, Bong told reporters at the ceremony that he was determined to fight for the rights and interests of Sarawak and safeguard what rightfully belongs to the state and would also strive for the betterment of the Padungan area.

“With the handing over of the GPS flags, we are showing that our branch machinery and operations room are ready for this coming election. We will uphold the principle of our struggle along with GPS,” he said.

Jong Yean Pin

At the same time, Jong shared his view that Padungan had been rather stagnant in its development for the last ten years.
