KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) is stepping up its preparation for the upcoming state election by launching its operations room in Sibu on Friday.
Party president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian officiated at the launch of the operations room for the Bawang Assan and Dudong constituencies during the former’s visit to Sibu.
“Launched the SUPP N53 Bawang Assan and SUPP N52 Dudong operations room, ready for Sarawak election,” he said in a short Facebook post on Friday.
Also present during the launch were SUPP vice president Datuk Lee Kim Shin, secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting, youth chief Micheal Tiang, women chief Kho Teck Wan, Bawang Assan branch chief Robert Lau Hui Yew and Dudong branch chief Wong Ching Yong.
Dr Sim who is also Local Government and Housing Minister said thus far, 2020 has been a mixed year for the party due to Covid-19 and the changing political landscape.
“I reminded members that whatever challenging circumstances come our way, SUPP for the last 61 years with its ups and downs shall continue to fight for Sarawak and serve the people with passion,” he said.
The Bawang Assan and Dudong seas are said to be SUPP’s traditional seats with the party staking its claim for both seats for the upcoming state election.
The two seats however are now helmed by Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) with Bawang Assan long-time incumbent being party president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh and Dudong being occupied by Datuk Tiong Thai King.
SUPP Dudong has since tipped their branch chief Ching Yong to be fielded for the Dudong seat in the state election while SUPP Bawang Assan chairman Lau has been viewed as the party’s long-time candidate for the hotly contested Bawang Assan seat.
