KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) is expected to contest in 20 seats in the 12th state election.

Its president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said he has already submitted the list of its candidates.

“Traditionally SUPP has always contested in 20 seats. So I have submitted the list to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg,” he told reporters after attending the launch of Phase 1 and 2 of the Batu Kawah Riverbank Park on Monday (Nov 8).

When asked if there would be any new faces, he however remained tight-lipped.

“We wait. Because normally after the list is submitted, there will always be a discussion.

“But, the seven incumbents will be defending their seats in the coming state election,” he said.

SUPP secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting in a press conference on Nov 6, said SUPP had decided that all seven incumbents who won in the 11th Sarawak election would be named as candidates for the coming election,” he said.

Earlier, in his speech, Dr Sim said that Sarawak was now ready to procure any medication available to complement the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) ongoing efforts in combating the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Abang Johari has instructed Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to buy any medication needed to assist the MoH in fighting Covid-19 and save the lives of the people.

“This medicine is not cheap and the price of one dose can reach up to RM6,000.

“That goes to show how much our chief minister is committed to look after the wellbeing of the people of Sarawak,” said Dr Sim.
