KUCHING: It is with a very heavy heart for me to hear that our former party president, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Wong Soon Kai who served from 1991 to 1996 has passed away at the age of 90 years, said Secretary General of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Dato’ Sebastian Ting (picture).

He added that the late Dr Wong had contributed so much to the party and most importantly to Bumi Kenyalang, Sarawak.

“In recognition of his capability as a leader, Dr Wong was appointed as Deputy Chief Minister for two years, from 1994 to 1996. He was a great mentor to many of the present party leaders and a true statesman to his fellow countrymen.

“Even before he entered politics, Dr Wong had contributed a lot as a government doctor. In fact he was the first Sarawakian to graduate as a surgeon from Great Britain. He had never stop giving all his energy to serve the people and for the betterment of Sarawak whether as a doctor or politician. Today is a great loss to Sarawak and may his soul rest in peace.
