SUPP Women, CanHOPE organise cancer awareness talk

KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Central Women Section is partnering with CanHOPE Kuching to jointly organise a cancer awareness talk from 6pm to 9pm today (May 24).

The talk entitled “Knowledge and Hope, Let’s Fight Cancer Together” will be held at the Sape Hall, Level 1 of Citadines Uplands Kuching.

SUPP Women chief Kho Teck Wan said the awareness talk is sponsored by Parkway Cancer Centre and Parkway Hospitals Singapore.

The speakers are Parkway Cancer Centre senior consultant medical oncologist Dr Richard Quek Hong Hui and Dr Winston Woon, a general surgeon at Gleneagles Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore.

Dr Quek has special interest in the management of sarcomas, gastrointestinal stromal tumours, melanomas and lymphomas. He will be sharing a talk on “The Modern Day Cancer Journey: Prevention, Diagnosis & Treatment”.

Dr Woon’s field includes general surgery and endoscopy (gastroscopy and colonoscopy), but his main interest lies in laparoscopic or robotic surgery, including hernia, gall bladder, liver, pancreas and bile duct surgery. The topic of his talk will be “Keyhole Surgery is a way to go”.

The awareness talk is initiated by CanHOPE, a non-profit cancer counselling and support service provided by Parkway Cancer Centre Singapore.

CanHOPE Kuching consists of an experienced, knowledgeable and caring support team with access to comprehensive information on a wide range of topics in education and guidelines in cancer treatment.

Members of the public can go to SUPP HQ to pick up the free entrance ticket between 8am and 5pm.

Tickets will also be available at the entrance of Sape Hall from 6pm today.
