UNIMAS CHAIRMAN’S QUIT DECISION
KUCHING: Tan Sri Dr Kamal Mat Salih, who resigned as Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) chairman after only one week, has earned the respect of Kho Teck Wan.
“I respect Kamal for understanding the wishes of Sarawakians, and vacating the position on his own accord,” said the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Women chief yesterday.
Kho added that Sarawak Pakatan Harapan (PH) members had been silent on Kamal’s appointment.
“Their (Sarawak PH) failure to voice out shows their inability and fear of making any decision that is against the federal government.
“Hence, I call for this position to be returned to a qualified Sarawakian,” she said.
Kamal’s resignation came days after the Sarawak government issued a statement that it was not consulted over the appointment nor notified officially of the appointment prior to the media announcement.
Kamal told online news portal FMT that he heard from certain quarters that the Sarawak government wanted a Sarawakian, and that they were unhappy because they were not consulted on the appointment.
