Supplier fined for kway teow offence

KUCHING: A noodle supplier here was fined RM5,000 by the Magistrate’s Court for selling kway teow containing benzoic acid above permissible levels last December.

The company’s representative pleaded guilty in front of Syarifah Fatimah Azura.

According to the charge, the company had sold the noodles at a supermarket in Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce here on Dec 8, 2021, at 2.40 pm.

Analysis showed that the noodles contained the benzoic acid preservative at a rate of 2,470 milligrams per kilogram which exceeded the maximum level allowed.

The company committed an offence under Section 13B (1), Section 13B (2) (e) of the Food Act 1963 and Section 13 (B) (4) of the same Act.
