KUCHING: Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang has urged Sarawakians to give undivided support to the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) for a better Sarawak.

He expressed great hope that Sarawak can transform better given the proposed development in the 12MP that is well-planned with good implementation, especially in rural areas.

“I welcome the 12MP’s budget tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (Sept 27) focusing on commitment to Sabah and Sarawak socioeconomic development in relation to the demands stated in the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

“The prime minister mentioned that about 50 percent of the total budget would be allocated for the less developed states and regions in Malaysia. In this sense, it includes Sabah and Sarawak.

“This initiative would narrow the development gap among the states and regions in Malaysia. I am confident that the poverty rate in Sarawak would reduce gradually by the end of the 12MP,” he said in a statement yesterday (Sept 28).
