SERIAN: The people here are urged to continue supporting Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the upcoming state election to ensure continuous development in their area.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said while most of the infrastructures in Serian were completed, there were still a lot to do to develop the people’s socio economy.

“We have to retain GPS to ensure that the development continues to be implemented. While we already have roads, electricity and clean water, we still need to uplift the people’s living standard.

“I believe all of you know that the area has seen endless development from time to time and all of this is because of the solid backing given to the state government,” he said.

He was speaking during the presentation of agriculture and breeding project inputs for Tebedu areas at Dewan Tayung Langui Kampung Pichin, here on Wednesday.

Uggah said with the people’s support of incumbent Tebedu assemblyman Datuk Seri Michael Manyin Jawong who is also Education, Science and Technological Research Minister, developments continued to be rife in the area.

“We know what has happened (to opposition parties). They were only making empty promises that were never fulfilled.

“They even once said that if they are the government today, tomorrow, the oil price will be lowered to RM1.50. Let me ask you, did the oil price get cheaper? No.

“There was also a minister in Kuala Lumpur who is no longer in government who said that their programme is better than GPS’.

“All these are mere deceptions. It is not true and will not materialise,” Uggah said.

He reminded rural dwellers not to fall prey to the opposition’s promises and words, adding that they should stick to the current state government.

“If we unite, we will continue to be more developed and ensure a better future for our children and grandchildren.

“I appeal to everyone in this area to back the GPS candidate as it is the only way to retain GPS in government for the next five years,” he said.
