KUCHING: The support given to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the 15th general election (GE15) can help stabilise the Malaysian government.

Petra Jaya incumbent MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said that this is what Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg meant in relation to Sarawak’s statement as a ‘king maker’.

“However, Sarawak’s contribution is to determine political stability of the country. Therefore, we expect solid support from the people,” he said when speaking to the media after meeting with the Malaysian Family (Keluarga Malaysia) Community at Zainab Family Food Court, Metrocity, yesterday (Oct 30).

In addition, Fadillah said that, if possible, of the 31 parliamentary seats to be contested, all of them will be given to GPS.

He stressed that it would be able to form a more stable Malaysian government, thereby safeguarding Sarawak’s rights.

“In addition to stabilising the country’s political position, we can have a louder voice in Parliament to uphold our rights,” he said.

The incumbent MP urged Sarawakians to continue supporting GPS because it is not only for the sake of stability, but also to improve the economy through the confidence of investors to invest in the country.

In his preparation for GE15, Fadillah revealed that his machinery has been ready since the previous election.

“Whether at Parliament level or not, we always work and support the people. This election is just a formality to tidy up the work.

“Looking at the service to the people, we have been in the field since before and have always been ready since the announcement of GE14,” he said.

Fadillah, who is also the GPS chief whip, is expected to defend the Petra Jaya Parliamentary seat which he has held for four consecutive terms since GE11 in 2004.

The matter was confirmed by the Abang Johari before, thus expressing confidence in the incumbent to maintain victory in the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) traditional seat.
