KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Kota Sentosa chairman Wilfred Yap hopes that the new government will put the people above politics and resolve the predicament and suffering of the people caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said this on Wednesday (Aug 18), noting the jostling for power by MPs at federal level and the current speculations on who the next Prime Minister would be.

“Malaysia is now in urgent need of a competent Prime Minister and Cabinet with fresh ideas and who are able to inspire confidence and execute effective policies to overcome the Covid-19 pandemic and revive the faltering economy.

“Malaysia cannot afford to go back to the failures and political games of the past few years. The new government should be one that puts an end to political games once and for all, restoring good government and focusing on doing the right thing for our people.”

More importantly, he said, the government should not drag its feet but rather prioritise the restoration of the special rights of Sabah and Sarawak as stipulated under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

“This includes taking proactive steps to amend the Federal Constitution, which both Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional governments had previously promised but not delivered.”

On a separate matter, Yap, who is also Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) chief, shared that during his recent visit to Jalan Hup Kee, he had been approached by a resident for assistance.

He said this involved the repair of a burst pipe at Lorong Hup Kee 26E (behind Boulevard Shopping Mall) that was causing low water pressure.

“Following the request for assistance received, the complaint was immediately communicated to Kuching Water Board and the burst main water pipe has been repaired.”
