SIBU: Party Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) versus Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the next state election?

“I don’t see PSB or its president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh contesting against GPS,” said Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira (pic) yesterday.

When reminded that Wong did state that PSB intended to contest against GPS, he said, “But he always said that PSB would give full support to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.”

Having said that, he conceded that if PSB intends to contest against the component parties in GPS that means Wong had been lying to the chief minister and his supporters.

Still, that does not mean that PSB has no right to contest in the next election, including against GPS, he said.

“The people are mature enough to choose which party they can depend on to protect the interest of Sarawakians,” he said.

He went on to argue that if one studied the current Sarawak politics, it was hard not to see GPS’ point of view which is centred on ‘Sarawak first’, ‘Sarawak for Sarawakians’ and everything pro-Sarawak. The component parties are, after all, Sarawak-born and Sarawak-based, unlike their opponents that are mostly Malaya-based.

“I feel sorry for PSB as the leaders are no strangers to us, but when I put feelings aside I don’t see the party getting great support from Sarawakians because it has no significant track record to shout about,” he said.
