KUCHING: The Covid-19 cases in Sibu are expected to increase, said Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting.

He said he was informed that the positive cases in Sibu on Tuesday (Jan 12) were more than those on Monday (Jan 11).

“The hospital is running out of space to house all the Covid-19 patients. They are considering using other venues,” he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Jan 12).

Ting urged everyone in Sibu to take extreme precautions by strictly following the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Sibu is now a Covid-19 red zone and has been placed under conditional movement control order (CMCO) until Jan 26 in order to curb the increasing number of positive cases.

In another development, Ting also went to the Sibu Indoor Stadium to check on the Covid-19 testing centre.

He noted there were people queuing up to get tested and all were adhering to the SOPs.
