MUKAH: In conjunction with this year’s Teachers’ Day, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kampung Tellian Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) made surprise visits to teachers’ homes to present gifts.

The PTA delivered gifts directly to the teachers’ homes around Mukah while following standard operating procedures (SOPs) such as social distancing and using face masks.

According to the president James Anthony, the initiative was in appreciation of the teachers who had contributed much to the children of Kampung Tellian, Mukah.

“During this conditional movement control order (CMCO), the contributions of the teachers of SK Kampung Tellian are not forgotten — this is one of the ways we celebrate them,” he said.

He also expressed his appreciation and gratitude to all teachers in Malaysia, especially in Mukah, for continuing to be committed in carrying out their duties throughout the movement control order (MCO) period.

One of the PTA committee members, Jessie Selahat, said that the theme of ‘Berguru Demi Ilmu, Bina Generasi Baharu’ (Studying for knowledge, building a new generation) was very appropriate this year.

“This theme is to appreciate the sacrifices and perseverance of teachers in the pursuit of knowledge to produce quality younger generations for the nation’s future,” she said.

SK Kampung Tellian Mukah currently has 20 teachers, three executive staff and 222 students.

The school has been occupying a building at SK Mukah since almost 16 years ago. Meanwhile, the new building of SK Kampung Tellian Mukah at Kampung Tellian Tengah Mukah has been completed and is ready for operations.

In light of the Covid-19 pandemic and the MCO, the school building has not been opened yet for use.

According to Deputy Education Minister II Muslimin Yahaya, priority will be given to classes which have public examinations once the school session resumes.
