KUCHING: State Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Ministry will be carrying out a survey on the effectiveness of the special assistance initiative for kidney patients in the state.

Its minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the survey would provide insights for the ministry to improve the implementation of the initiative.

“The ministry will be conducting a survey on the effectiveness of this assistance to improve the health and quality of life of patients and families.

“Based on the feedbacks that we received from the doctors in dialysis centres, the most required type of treatment is to install the arteriovenous fistula (AVF) for new kidney patient,” she said during the press conference on Wednesday.

As of December 2020, Fatimah pointed out that the assistance only received 88 applications throughout the state.

Thus, she said the ministry would undertake aggressive promotional activities to spread on the existence of the assistance for kidney patients.

“To encourage more kidney patients to apply for this special assistance, we will carry out aggressive promotional activities this year.

“Of course, we will spread through the mainstream media including TV Sarawak, Ukas and local RTM radio channels,” she added.

Besides through the media, Fatimah also added that the ministry would distribute the kidney special assistance form at the community service centres throughout Sarawak.

“We will supply the forms at the service centres so that people can hand in their forms at any of the centres,” she said.
