BINTULU: Marine police arrested a lorry driver when he failed to produce the relevant documents for transporting 2,000 litres of diesel on Tuesday (May 10).

Region 5 Marine Police commander ACP Zulfikar Mohd Ghazali who confirmed the arrest said the 31-year-old suspect was picked up during an operation codenamed Ops Kontraban.

“At approximately 8.20am, our team was conducting an inspection on a lorry at Jalan Simpan Daiken Sarawak Sdn Bhd, Jalan Bitulu-Bakun.

“The suspect, aged 31, was arrested when he failed to produce the relevant documents from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) for transporting controlled items,” he said.

The total value of the fuel, including the lorry and two squared plastic tanks, was RM54,300.

The confiscated items and the suspect were handed over to KPENHEP for further action under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
