KUCHING: Narcotics police have arrested a local man for allegedly possessing various drugs worth RM1,028 last Saturday.

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah, in a statement, said that the arrest was made around 4.30 pm in Kampung Goebilt.

“During the raid, the team managed to seize 21 straw tubes containing 5.06g of suspected syabu and two Erimin 5 pills in the suspect’s possession.

“The 25-year-old suspect, who did not have any prior records, was tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said.

He added that the suspect is being remanded until Feb 28 to facilitate investigations under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

If convicted, he may be sentenced to prison for a term of up to five years, and face up to nine lashes of the cane.

From Jan 1 to Feb 24, the Kuching district police headquarters (IPD) arrested a total of 464 individuals for various drug offences and seized various drugs worth RM90,641.

In the same period, a total of 187 investigation papers have been resolved and charged in court.
