The suspect is remanded for four days to assist in the investigation of a false claim amounting to RM 182,420.00.

BINTULU: To help with the investigation into a case of false claims totalling RM 182,420, a manager at a company was remanded for four days beginning today.

The 57-year-old male suspect was the subject of an application that Magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa granted on behalf of Assistant Superintendent Muhammad Hafiz of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Bintulu Branch.

Sources claimed that the suspect had submitted an invoice to a government agency for the cost of transporting diesel and RON95 petrol to the rural areas around Kakus and Sungai Kakus in the year 2021.

However, no delivery was made.

When the suspect attempted to flee the MACC yesterday at around noon, he was later apprehended close to the Miri Central Police Station.

The case is being looked into in accordance with Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009, which, if proven guilty, carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of at least five times the amount of false information or RM 10,000, whichever is higher.
