MIRI: A woman was detained on Sunday (Jan 17) after she fled from a mini mart in Jalan Lee Tak here with groceries worth RM31.90.

Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari said the suspect was apprehended by CID officers around 4.20pm following a report by the premises owner.

In the 3pm incident, the suspect, 29, was seen running out from the shop after taking several items without paying for them.

The shop’s workers, including the owner, tried to give chase but were unsuccessful. The incident was recorded by the shop’s CCTV.

ACP Hakemal said the suspect was detained at a five-foot way in Jalan Bongor. Also recovered were the stolen items.

These included one litre of Nestle low fat milk, one litre of Nestle full cream milk, a bottle of Mini Bee honey (250g), and a litre of Dutch Lady low fat milk.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime, saying that she had no money to pay for the items.

The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft.
