KUCHING: Marine police have detained a suspect for illegally carrying and storing diesel without any proper documentation or approval from authorities.

The Marine Intelligence Unit (URM) of the Marine Police Region 5 Kuching apprehended the suspect at 11 am yesterday during ‘Ops Kontraban’.

Marine police commander ACP Zulfikar Mohd Ghazali states that the team, together with personnel from police drone unit, found   a number of plastic tanks with diesel when they raided a premises.

The team then arrested a man and detained a white lorry with no registration numbers at the Demak Industrial area.

“The team inspected the lorry and found 22 square 1,000 litre plastic tanks as well as 15 plastic tanks with at least 15,000 litres of diesel at the premises.

“The caretaker of the premises failed to show any proper documentation or proof of owning/storing/ carrying the fuel without a permit/licence/special permission from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affair (KPDNHEP),” said the commander.

The total value of the items confiscated, including the lorry, the 15,000 litres of diesel, 37 plastic tanks and two homemade metal tanks and four pump units,  is RM121,600.

The confiscated items and the suspect have been handed over to the investigating officer from KPDNHEP Kuching for further actions.
