KUCHING: Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party (Aspirasi) president Lina Soo has lodged a police report at Padungan police station yesterday (Nov 26) pertaining to a suspected extortion case.

Soo, who is also Aspirasi’s potential candidate for Padungan in the upcoming state election, said the incident happened on Nov 19 when a friend of hers was approached by an unknown man at KMC Sebuyau flat, Jalan Ban Hock.

“The stranger asked my friend who is the party’s candidate for Padungan and she replied Lina Soo.

“He then said he wanted to collect RM500 from her before leaving the area without any explanation,” she told reporters after lodging the police report.

Soo pointed out that it was her first time experiencing such an incident and her comrades have yet to experience the same encounter.

The police report was made for reference to avoid such an incident in the future and to avoid misconception that the party is giving out money during the campaign period.

“I have been contesting in the last three elections and no one had come and asked money from me or the party.

“Aspirasi is not a rich party that is capable of giving out money to anyone who come up to them,” she said.

All campaigning work such as hanging of banners and buntings, she added, are carried out by volunteers and the party does not employ workers for such work.

“In any election, the party strictly abides by all laws and election rules,” she stressed.
