Suspected local drug dealer detained

PADAWAN: A local man suspected to be a drug dealer, was arrested for allegedly possessing various drugs worth more than RM12,000 on May 23.

Sarawak Narcotic Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) chief ACP Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah disclosed that the arrest carried out by his men, took place around 6pm after the 32-year-old suspect was seen in a suspicious manner around Sungai Maong area.

“Inspections led to the seizures of various drugs that were found in the suspect’s possession.

“These include 105 Ecstasy pills, three Ecstasy juice packets, 69.89g of ketamine and 14 liquid bottles containing marijuana mixture. All of the drugs were valued at RM14,014,” he said.

Investigations found that that the suspect obtained the supply of drugs from another local in Kuching. The supply will then be repackaged and sold to users around Batu Kawa and Padawan area.

He added that the police also seized cash amounting to RM20,000 and jewellery worth around RM14,270 from the suspect.

Mustafa pointed out that the suspect who was tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), will be remanded until May 30 to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

If convicted, the suspect can be sentenced to death or life imprisonment and if not given the death sentence, he is liable to be sentenced to 15 lashes of the whip.

The police especially the NCID, will beef up efforts to combat drug distribution and addiction in addition to crippling the financial source of the syndicate by confiscating property under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.
