SARATOK: Cooperatives, as a business, must have sustainable economic planning to benefit members and the community in the long run.

This will shed the stigma of cooperatives not going anywhere which is still prevalent among rural communities, said Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri.

“This is due to the failure of some cooperatives, therefore, appointed board members must be professional in managing cooperatives effectively,” he said after opening the 12th Annual General Meeting of the Felcra Saratok Division Cooperative here on Wednesday (Dec 20)

In this respect he urged cooperatives in his constituency to always emulate successful cooperatives.

“I believe the government has various initiatives to help the cooperative sector advance,” he said.

Mohamad urged the Malaysian Cooperative Commission (SKM) to help raise awareness, especially among entrepreneurs in rural areas, about the available financing for those wishing to establish cooperatives.

In a separate development, he also explained the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030).
