KUCHING:  The Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Ministry is finalising its standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the resumption of tadika (kindergartens and pre-schools) in Sarawak.

Its minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the ministry was waiting for the announcement of the SOPs for tadika resumption from the federal government.

She said it might not be able to implement the SOPs fully in Sarawak due to geographical differences.

“We need to fine-tune and compare our SOPs for tadika with those by the federal government. We compared our SOPs for taska with those by the  federal government and found that they were similar.

“The SOPs provided by the federal government need to be reviewed before the state government can endorse them because Sarawak is different  from Malaya,” she said when met by reporters after inspecting the implementation of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the reopening of Taska Cahaya Horizons at Green Heights  here on Tuesday (June 9).

Fatimah explained that  the SOPs drawn up from her ministry would  cover all measures to be taken by both the private and public tadika’s including those located in the rural and urban areas.

“We have to acknowledge that the students and pupils come from different areas. For example, our boarding schools are different from those in Malaya; our boarding schools provide hostel accommodation specifically for students from the rural areas,” she said.
